3/4 Day Trip on the Pierpoint
#1

Pierpoint Trip Report for September 17, 2003

The KC fishing club, of which I'm a member, had a 3/4 day charter on the Pierpoint out of Pierpoint landing in Long Beach. We had a lite load of not more than 25 anglers.

Deciding to go to Catalina for a shot at those skittish yellowtail, we took off a little earlier that the usual 6am. We passed up the bait receivers as Jimmy, our captian, had contacted a squid boat at Catalina and got an OK from them on the squid. With a 5 buck donation all around, we had squid for the day!! Not having to hang out at the bait receiver really increases the fishing time, at the primo time to fish!

We fished both the back side, west end and front side keeping an ear cocked for yellow action that didn't materalize to any degree. We did land two yellows with a few yellows lost but our main action was on the Calicos. The bite was good on the Calicos with a few barracuda and a very nice sheephead landed. The spot we stopped often puts out some pretty good halibut too. There were no bonito caught by our boat today.

The galley was manned by a new cook. Greg makes a good breakfast and great party boat burgers. Mikie did his usual good job on deck, always there and ready to lend a hand. Best 3/4 day crew combo at Pierpoint landing for my money.

Lots of limits of Calicos all around and we were back at the dock right around 6pm. Great Trip, Great Friends, Great Crew!
