[left][font "Calibri"][#1f497d]Citing the economic importance of a high quality recreational fishery for striped bass, the Governor signed legislation extending the ban on commercial fishing for striped bass in the Hudson River until at least April 2015. After hearing that the recreational community had been a little too quiet in support of the bill, we sent an action notice to members in late June asking for emails and/or letters to be sent to Governor Cuomo. We know that many SF members took this action and clearly this support was helpful in getting the legislation to the finish line. [/#1f497d][/font][/left]
[left][font "Calibri"][#1f497d]This bill is not our ultimate goal of game fish designation for striped bass in all NY state waters, but it is an excellent step in that direction. Remember that just a year ago, the New York representatives to the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Council were in the forefront of a (n unsuccessful ) move to expand commercial quotas. We think this legislation provides some real impetus towards achievement of our final goal. [/#1f497d][/font][/left]
