I was watching a tying video tonite and they used Antron for a white winged pt nymph.... what exactly is Antron .. Is it the same material that is used for posts on some flies .

Thanks sis... so it is the material you sent me to tie in those posts... I had a feeling it was but wanted to make sure...

Absolutely! Some material can be had for a fraction of the cost from a fly shop.

I saw somewhere that some tyers were using latch hook rug yarn from the craft stores. Just look at the stuff and see if it has the sheen and texture you want.

Here are some examples. I just googled this so I don't know if the brand is good fly tying material or not.

those would be the perfect size for flies...

Ive been doing some searching as well and I have yet to see anything that says antron.. LOL... lots of polyester etc.. but no antron...

but seriously.. are those antrons by another name more common to a craft shop??

btw... finally got google to do some work and finding all kinds on ebay... now this leads to a second question..

what colors... say I was to choose like four to six spools or cards of antron that would last me to the grave... what colors are the most commonly used... ??

I would say Gray, White, Black, Rust, Gold, and Olive.

Up to you, but Antron also doubles as tail/shucks. On bright sunny days with white clouds, Black is the best.
If you are getting it for posts only, then yes, yellow, orange, red.
