Middle provo

Im going with a friend of mine this sat to the middle provo to fly fish. Neither of us have fished it before, not sure where to fish or where you can access the river from. And if you have any patterns that might be working well right now any help would be great thanks!

There are several places to access the river,that will not be a problem. Attractor patterns= #10 red or orange san juan worms, #8 stone fly,#12 sow bug, #14 B.H.hares ear,,#14 B.H. prince. Trailors= #18 sow bug,#18 black/gold zebra midge,#16 B.H.Pheasant tail,#18 green caddis larva. May see a blue wing olive hatch to throw some drys to.

Can you kinda of explain where I could park I dont need a secret spot just a turn off or something. Have never been on the middle provo, I was thinking by the intersection on the road that goes up to kamas. But if not I could figure it out. Thanks for the help though I appreciate it very much.

There are 5 or 6 improved parking lots along the middle provo for fishermen access. They're all basically dirt parking lots with log fencing and a bathroom.

At that intersection you're talking about, if you go northeast (towards Kamas) and then take your first left on the road that goes down to the bottom of Jordanelle dam, there are 2 of these access points on that road. Ones at the end of the road below the dam and the other is about halfway there on your left. There are some rock columns that mark the turnoff to the parking lot.

If you turn southwest from the intersection (towards Midway) there's a dirt road on your right that takes you back to another parking area. There's a small brown fishing sign on the road with an arrow marking the turnoff. A little further down the road there's another parking lot on your left that you can see from the road. Both of these are within about 1/4 mile from the highway. I personally like these spots better than the 2 that are on the other side of the highway.

There are also a couple more further downstream. One in Midway and one near the inlet to Deer Creek.

You might take a few minutes and visit Four Seasons fly shop in Heber. Buy a few must have flies and get the "word" on what to expect to be happening on the river. They will also show you the map of access points and maybe give you a cup of coffee. It's a good thing to do when going to a new water for the first time. The advise you get will give you a place to start and boost your confidence. I've heard you might see some blue-wing olives (18-20ish?) as well as the other ideas already mentioned.

I'm not affiliated with anyone who works there at all. From what I've heard, they are A-OK. It's just my suggestion and what I would do. The MP is their home water, like almost their back yard. I've been hoping for a little warmer weather for a trip myself and I will take my own advise when I get the urge. Especially this time of year, we may need current info on they would do, like size & color in particular. This time of year I've found I need to change my focus a bit and give the fish what pleases them vs what pleases me to throw at them.
I've found any shop guys get a lot more friendly when you show them that you appreciate them by spending a little $$ before you start asking for all their wisdom. Ya gotta pay your dues for the info, and not just from the fishes.

I will be stopping thier i need some more flies anyways, and thank you everybody for your advice it makes learning a new way of fishing so much easier I don't know what I would have done without BFT!

Just got back from the middle provo, found a good spot that looked liked it would have a lot of fish but no luck [:/], I tried a few different flies but no takers. Should have stopped at the fly shop on the way up but forgot my wallet. I guess that means Ill be making another trip!

Great morning (Thurs) out on the Middle with a fly, albeit not the correct ones! I suppose I should have stopped in at the Four Seasons Fly Shop first. It was, however, well worth my time to head into Heber (live in South Jordan and had to scoot it back home ;-( to get some advice. First time in the shop and Aaron was really a great source of information. Super cool guy and respectful of those like myself who have limited experience fishing the Provo.
