The TyeDye's hit Renegade 1-8
#1
Strawberry - BFT's In2Fishig invited my twin and I to join him and his girlfriend to Renegade. The road was slick, but completly passible in a 4wd. We arrived at 6am in the dark to an air temp of 9F and a breeze that can only be described as chilly. Walked forever and once the holes were drilled we started to get fish before the sun came up. Once the sun appeared things slowed down and much to In2Fishing's dismay a large family group set up within 10 yards of our spot and started to drill holes everywhere. Wonder if they walked all that way because they saw a tent, or they had plans of fishing the exact same location? Cosidering we were the only group in that area it seemed strange to say the least.

Not happy with the sudden lack of action (TyeDye and In2Fishing both pulled up some crawdads with chub meat) we moved to a new location and tried shallow (15 ft) and deep (30ft.). We spreaded out trying different depths to see which was best. Turns out the deeper water was better. With that in mind we regrouped at the deeper water and started getting into some fish. All the fish in this location were 1-2 feet off the bottom and fiesty!

Eventually the wind really ramped up and not only were we thankful for the ice tent...but the new tent heater too! That thing was worth every penny today! Around 2:30pm the action was gone Sad and when we stuck our heads out of the tent....everyone else was either gone or leaving. Following suit we made the long treck back to the car. While packing up we ran into BFT's SEETSNFR who said he had a similar day as ours.

The days totals were.....TyeDye = 1 cutt at 16.5in....In2Fishing got 6 cutts between 14.5in to 19in....His girlfriend got 8 cutts between 16in and 21in and I got 6 cutts between 14.75in and 20.5 inches.

TyeDye used a Manic Tube Jig in radical glow tipped a corn flavored salmon egg. To catch the crawdad he used a silver kastmaster with chub meat.

While it was dark I caught a fish using a Pink/Yellow Neon Tiger Icefly that unknown to me.....glows in the dark, tipped with a nightcrawler. Once daylight appeared I caught 5 fish on a 3 inch orange glow jig tipped with a nightcrawler. Too bad I took so long to switch to that....once I got it rigged I couldn't keep the fish off.

In2Fishing and his girlfriend used a Manic Tube Jig in radical glow tipped with chub meat and eventually corn flavored salmon eggs. They also used a rainbow ice fly jig tipped with corn flavored salmon eggs and some smelly jelly.

My 1st fish of the day just as the sun was coming up, taped at 18 inches.

You fogot that the girlfriend landed 1 rainbow and the rest were cutts dummy!

Ugh I have decided to swear off the berry for good! For some reason I cannot land more than 3 fish EVER from that place no matter what time of year it is. No more berry trips for me thank you very much!

I have stopped believing in the berry but I know the berry hasn't stopped believing in me.[laugh]

Nice to meet all of you yesterday. Awesome pics as usual. My camera didn't work come to find out, or I would have posted the 6 year olds 21 inch catch. He's still pretty proud of the big fish of the day in our group.

You left early enough to get there at 6am, yet you still have time to do your hair?!? I'm curious if you spike it up in the truck, or if you set your alarm an extra 15 minutes early to get the spikes just right?

I did my hair the night before. I can usually get a couple of days out of it before it must be redone. For the record we were up at 3:45am....way too early for me.

NICE! I am so glad you weren't wearing shorts again, that just looks too cold.

Thanks...in the parking lot when TyeDye was putting on the snowpants over his shorts I joked about how we should take a shot of him wearing shorts again.

For the record it was almost 50F degrees at Lower Bells that last time he was wearing shorts. He had a jacket on but I was in shorts and a tee shirt. Weather like that makes one wonder what month it is.....and what season it is.

I hear that! I guess it is all the white stuff that makes it "appear colder" I know I could be wet wading on the rivers a couple of days, but, that wind chill thing can really suck.
Thanks for keeping it interesting....[laugh]

Now that's just precious! I thought spikes were for fishing? And Berry's were for Capn Crunch! Gawd I'm so Confused with ALL these fishing terms!!! Is there a fly pattern to match the spikes?!?!

Just wait for the polar bear plunge - they'll wear less than shorts, and we'll find out how much that DEW can really stand up to!

Nice report folks. Fine looking fish. Wish I was closer to da Berry! Slot and all - them's some nice sizable fish there! Spanks my friendly footlong planter bows! Fur SURE! Plus they got more spots!
Nothing over the slot this day though. What's a hungry boy ta do!

Um -so Joni - when you and Koch gonna come try some ice? Do we have to wait for Rockport - or you interested in testing out the hard-deck before that?
The plus on ice-fishing over cold-river wading, is the tent, the heater, and hot chocolate or hot tadi (or beverage of choice!). Put yer lemon slice to work TDT!

It was a great trip with you guys.
it was hard not to say a few words to the group that moved right in on us. weird that there was only like a mile between fishing partys on that side of the lake. but yet ten yards from were i was fishing they had to set up .....[:p]

radical glow tube jig tipped with chub. and a maniac cutter bug in glow tipped with chub was the best bait 4 me. with lots of smelly jelly craw daddy.

With this warm winter and all the open water lakes, you sure ice is a safe place to be?
