Brown Trout Fishing 2011 Upper Peninsula
#1
This was our best year on the fly for river resident Brown Trout. Here are some of the highlights of our season on the water in 2011. We had our usual staple of fine hatches which kept the browns spry and healthy. There was a decent March Brown, Brown Drake, various stonefly, caddis and other hatches to keep us busy. All of these fish were caught and released. Hope you enjoy these photos and that your 2012 is just as good.

Phenominal browns, and beautiful waters! I would love to see some pictures of your favorite the flies that you have been using for those lunkers.

Thanks for sharing those.

Thank you. I mainly just match the hatch. Lots of pheasant tail nymphs during the daylight hours. Brown Drakes, Stimulators, Elk Hair Caddis, so many to mention. I like big silhouettes at dusk and at night. I landed the biggest river resident Brown Trout of my life that was over 2 pounds and measured 24 1/8" at 11:45 on a large green drake dry. I was ecstatic!

Nice Browns. This seems to be the time to go for them for sure, and as you say, right fly. I have been smiling from ear to ear as I am having no trouble getting clients into them here.
Those are beautiful waters, but then we all know, Trout don't live in ugly places...right[Wink]

Amen to that. You said it for sure. I bet you have some gorgeous waters there as well. I have done a ton of research on so many destinations across the world. Utah is one of the places I would like to visit when I make it out that way someday. The UP is not "known" for having great brown trout fishing and I'm ok with that, BUT! we do have a few exceptional rivers where you can land them all year round.
