Fishing Report Week Ending 1/19/02
#1
Time to get caught up with the last few days of fishing. The bite on tarpon has been later and later each evening. Along with the later bite, the number of strikes has decreased as the week progressed. The fish were concentrated in Haulover Inlet itself and we had no bites down the beach. Wednesday (1/16) we were 5 for 6, Thursday was 3 for 3, and Friday 1 for 2 with the fish in the 50-75 pound range all three days. Mixed in with the tarpon have been some large ladyfish. They can fill in some time while waiting for the tarpon to turn on. Fished with the right tackle, ladyfish can be great sport. The tide conditions will be better next week, so I expect the fishing to bounce back.

Offshore fishing has continued to be up and down. Still no clean blue water, however, there has been some good north current. Kingfish remain scarce, but sailfishing has been decent. The bite has been later in the day and the fish have been in close (90-120 feet). Some large summertime type bonito (little tunny) have shown up. They too, give you great light tackle action. Try 8 and 12 pound outfits and you'll have you hands full fighting then for awhile. Watch for others to follow up the hooked fish and you can sight cast to them and have multiple hookups. There have been a few dolphin caught. Although there numbers are way down, it is more typical for this time of year. We've had some great weather, so get out there and enjoy it.

Captain Dave Kostyo
Knot Nancy Fishing Charters
305 620-5896
www.rnfl.com/knotnancy
nkostyo@bellsouth.net
