#1
[cool][#0000ff]For anyone with gripes or suggestions for better fisheries management, here is your chance to hear and be heard. Got this today from Chris Crockett[/#0000ff]

Good afternoon, I wanted to make everyone aware of two upcoming fisheries open houses on May 22nd and 24th (6:00pm-8:00pm). The May 22 open house will be located at the CRCC adjacent to our Central Region office here in Springville (1115 N. Main Street). The May 24 meeting will be at our Salt Lake Office (see flier for details). We hope to gather input and public comment on proposed fishing regulation/guide book changes and fishing ideas in general.

Hope to see you there.

[cool][#0000ff]A very mature and professional response. Shows that you have not really tried interacting with them. I have. Sure, some disappointments but they have their limitations of budget, personnel, etc. The only problem is that Utah Is full of pseudo biologists who are always trying to tell the real ones how to do their jobs. And everything they want is for their own personal gratification...not what is best for the fisheries or the fishermen...either short term or long term.[/#0000ff]

I agree TD. I was in on the changes they did at Strawberry several years ago. They actually listened to several people.

Now, if we can just get them to ban treble and barbed hooks from Artificial flies and lures C & R waters, I would be smiling. Working on that one too.

+1 on the C&R rules, i definatly think if a lake is artificial C&R then it should be single hooked atleast and maybe go a step further in making some places barbless aswell.

[cool][#0000ff]I think you can get a lot of Amen's on that. Maybe even a few ahhh women. (sorry).[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Having fished all over the country and having a chance to observe the various regs in other states I am kinda surprised at how lenient the C&R regs are in Utah. Most states really get serious about protecting their fish populations once they establish a trophy fishery or need to restrict harvest (mortality).[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]A lot of us shake our heads in disbelief when we see folks mishandling, gut hooking or tearing the heads off fish with trebles on waters that are designated C&R...or limited harvest, slots, etc. It is Sad to see all the floaters after a seige of bottle bait bank tanglers has had a big day on Strawberry. And I am sure there are far fewer living fish in Little Dell these days than before the onslaught of "heavy metal". Sure, most of the released fish swim away, but some never recover enough to resume feeding and a normal life. Trout are wimps and need to be handled much more carefully. [/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]I'm definitely planning on hitting the Salt Lake session. You gonna show up with your pearl handled .45s strapped on? Might be a good idea to start an organized list of potential topics of discussion. We could print them up and present them as well as giving the verbal part. That's the kind of stuff that gets the attention of our fisheries folk. Better than just smacking them around on the boards whenever a new agenda comes up.[/#0000ff]

the thing about little dell to is i can even get a fish on a fly rod and barely have it hooked and then i have to revive it for 5 minutes or until i feel comfortable with letting it go, now if you gut hook or rip the face of the dang fish then its not gonna have a good shot at all especially out of that lake.
