Coming Up In Walmart BFL Competition
#1
WHAT: The 2012 Walmart BFL season continues with three tournaments on Saturday, June 9. The Cowboy division continues its season on Bayou Black, the Piedmont division competes on High Rock Lake and the Volunteer division blasts off from Lake Cherokee. Up to 400 boaters and co-anglers will be competing in each event for top awards up to $8,000 and $3,000 respectively.

WHEN: Saturday, June 9, 2012

WHERE: Cowboy Division

Bayou Black
Bob's Bayou Black Marina
251 Marina Drive
Gibson, La.

NOTES: The fishing on Bayou Black has been as hot as the weather. Multiple reports of nice limits of bass have been coming out of Bob's Bayou Black Marina. The bass are not fully into their summer phase yet, and are scattered throughout the canals and bayous of southern Louisiana. Anglers will be using topwater baits, spinnerbaits and soft plastics, and versatility will be a factor in this event. The winning weight for this tournament should be right around 17 to 19 pounds.

WHERE: Piedmont Division
High Rock Lake
Tamarac Marina & Campground
9120 Bringle Ferry Road
Salisbury, N.C.
Hosted by the Rowan County Convention & Visitors Bureau

NOTES: The bass bite has improved since the last Piedmont division tournament held here last month. In that event, tournament anglers struggled to find the clear water due to lots of mud from recent storms. Anglers should find better water clarity this time around, although storms are being predicted in the days prior to the event. Water temperature has moved into the lower- to mid-80s and the lake level is still around 1½ feet below full pool. Popular baits thrown in this event will be soft plastics, jigs and crankbaits. Anglers should find success targeting the secondary points and docks. The winning angler can expect to have 16 to 18 pounds in this tournament.

WHERE: Volunteer Division
Lake Cherokee
Hamblin County Boat Dock & Cherokee Park
3045 Cherokee Park Road
Morristown, Tenn.
Hosted by the Morristown Area Chamber of Commerce

NOTES: Bass fishing on Lake Cherokee is being reported as good right now. The bass have been moving quite a bit in the recent weeks. Smallmouth bass are being caught everywhere on the lake. The largemouth bite has been a little tougher, but anglers should find some success near the transitional bedding areas and points in the mid-lake area and in recently flooded brush and grass. Crankbaits, jigs and buzz baits are all expected to produce in this tournament. Fifteen to 17 pounds is projected to be the weight needed to win this event.

The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, with 120 tournaments throughout the season, five in each division. The top 40 boaters and co-anglers from each division qualify for a regional tournament and are competing to finish in the top six, which then qualifies them for one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing - the Walmart BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the EverStart Series or even the Walmart FLW Tour.
