Finally got clear to head after some gills down at Twin Lakes. Was a bit worried about how it would be with the lower temps lately, but figured since it was supposed to warm up we'd have a chance. Joined up w/ shooter medic and his family down there and were on the water just after 9 am. We headed for a spot we'd had some luck last year and were soon catching a few gills, w/ some of them being pretty good size. We moved after a little and tried some other spots w/ less luck. We also landed one nice perch around the 11 inch range. Headed to shore for lunch and on the way in I noted about 6 good sized bass hanging in the trees near shore. Figured I'd tie on a senko and give it a go. First cast and it's bass on! Had my son reel it in. It was bleeding a bit and since it was legal we were going to keep it. However my son lost his grip on it while putting it into the kreel and it swam off vigorously so hopefully it will be ok. After lunch it was back out and we tried a few other spots w/ almost no luck. We did get some over in front of the dam in about 25-35 fow. I switched over to my braided line for more sensitivity and man did that make a difference in detecting bites! never got robbed once while I had it in my hand! It slowed quickly and off to our starting point for the day. At first it didn't seem like much was in there, then we noticed them further back in the trees and brush. Basically they acted like big deer. Got into the thickest, nastiest brush they could find. However when we could weasel our way in without spooking them we could target specific fish somewhat efectively. And they were some of the biggest of the day. After a bit we checked out a couple areas, including a lone bush out in the water that I wasn't watching for a few seconds and the driver couldn't see since I was sitting in the bow of the boat. We went right through the thing! Little weird. One of the pics shows where the boat went pretty clearly. Final count for the day was 4 crappie, 2 perch, and 18 blue gill kept. probably released just as many blue gill. Also caught several bass in the 10-14 inch range plus spotted one that had to go 18 inches but wouldn't hit a thing. Not an on fire day, but fun and the kids had a blast.

Sounds like a BLAST! Glad you had a good day. I also have been wanting to get there and Oneida but work and kids sports have me way too busy though.

Well I have been lurking around on the site and decided I better join, you guys are a wealth of information on here. Anyhow, I am taking the family back over to Twin Lakes from 6/13-6/17. I don't have a boat yet but hopefully we can do some wading and find a few.

Well, welcome to BFT. With a few days there you should be able to find a bunch of fish.

You should be able to find them by wading, just fish around any structure, trees, bushes, etc. If you have polarized sun glasses, keep a keen eye out, because you should be able to see them and fish to individual fish. Also go slow as to not spook the ones that you may not see. Good luck, I think I will be heading that way 14th or 15th.

We was down there from 5/30-6/3 and the water had just started to warm up enough on the 3rd for the gills to start moving into the brush. Hoping this trip the water has warmed up enough to push them into the trees. One of my son's fished with a guy from Jackson Hole that was camped next to us last trip, he had a nice little 16' Lund and they got into a few nice gills on the back lake in the brush. A boat is the next item on my list of things to do.

We did pretty well at Twin Lakes on our trip, the kids wet waded knee to chest high in the willows and put about 100 good sized gills in the creel. We fried up a batch last night after we got home, cornmeal and parmesan cheese oh so good.

I think I'm going to take the kid's and head over to Winder on Wednesday, I've heard a couple of rumors that the gills are on fire over there also.
