I was pretty close on my prediction - I said someone may hit the 14lb mark, and Derek Yamamoto took Day 1 with 13.26lbs

UNOFFICIAL DAY ONE LEADERS

1. Derek Yamamoto . . . 13.26
2. Roy Hawk . . . 13.15
3. Verne Rid . . 12.87
4. Mike Caruso . . . . 12.87
5. Dick Watson . . . 11.99

A little bit higher than what I thought. Lots of peeps with decent upper 3lb kickers. I see one co-angler caught a ~5 pounder. Aaron Marten is in the hurt locker catching only 3 for 4.70lb. That will be unrecoverable for him. Especially on this lake. Bryon Velvick didn't fair much better.

Toby Robinson is the only name on the AAA list I know did ok catching 4 for almost 10 pounds. He has a BFT account and has posted here before. I have known Toby for years and years from other hobbies we both had.

Brent Becker fished the pro side this year and placed 9th on day 1 with 11.06lbs. He is in the local bass club I fished with. Great fisherman - I learned leagues from that guy.

Good job Brent! Keep it up!

It was a great tournament. I fished it as a AAA and ended up 41st (out of 128) or so with 24 lbs. The pro's I drew were not real impressive and my second day pro basically sunk me by pitching jigs in the same three coves all day in swallow bay. [crazy] I caught 8 of the 14 keepers my teams weighed in with my biggest fish just under 3lbs. Many of these anglers do not understand what it takes to put together 10 lbs for 3 straight day's on Mead. There certainly is some home field advantage there. I definately won't fish it as a AAA again, although I did have a good time, I definately prefer running my own boat. Those sacks you are putting togther are quality and you should deffinately consider doing some tourneys. The Bass Anglers Federation meets every month at BPS and is real laid back and you can always just try it as a co-angler or even as a boater. I have seen targas in both BAF and Anglers Choice Pro Series events.

Awesome! Great job out there. Wish I knew more locals so I had more to cheer for watching the live feeds, etc.

Bummer on your draws. One little area all day[crazy] Mead is a run and gun lake IMO.

I wouldn't mind messing around with a fun fishing one day'r club type of thing but anything else is way out of my $$$ domain. I would love to be able to run all over the lake and just totally run and gun but at 4mpg that alone slows me down big time and keeps it simple. Run to a close area to the marina and run the electric all day. Cheap and fun. More along my line of allowance [Wink]

Go get 'em next year as the angler!

The federation tourneys are low cost one day deals and luanch from Echo, Callville, Temple and even cottonwood. You are not required to fish all the tourneys and its real laid back. There are tons of great spots around all of those marinas. Its a real inexpensive way to get into tournament fishing. If interested, just go to bassanglersfederation.com, meetings are the first thursday every month in the fine gun room at BPS.
