Buddy called Monday re:quickie down at Powell. Left 4am Tues, home last night at 10. GREAT trip, far exceeding December expectations both fish-wise & weather-wise. Only half-dozen or so bluegills, but bulls.
30' for those on spinner-rigs going for walleye. Disappointed in only 2 'eyes (30' and 60') and no crappie, but smallies & largies galore. Greenfish coming from 2-12', while the brownies were caught in 10-20'. Hula grubs in white & brown the hot item tickets, along with 4" brown kut-tail worms. 95% of our bass from the shady bigrock banks, not the sunny ones. Made for cool, but fun fishing. Surprised shape-shape worms faired poorly. Two stripers on sp-rigs in 10' out of Ticaboo. All fish fat & sassy and fought all the way to the boat. Biggest largie 18+", biggest smallie at 17". Lost several others in that range due to acrobatics. Caught only 2-3 smallies under 12".
Great weather. Water from 53-55, very clear & mostly glass. Saw only one houseboat in two days on the water, no other fishermen. Fished Knowles & Warm Springs Tues, Good Hope areas on Wed. Non-fishing highlights included visit by coyote in Knowles (see pic), and two silver fox looking for scraps outside our motel room at Defiance. Cute little buggers not snapshotted 'cuz camera was in cov'd boat. All four of us dined on elk steak & red licorice. Water level had dropped 4' almost overnight from recent discharge at dam. Related water forecasts involve a future 8' of droppage. Enclosing shot of ramp water level.
