Did you see anyone fishing on the main lake? I am going up tomorrow and wondering if the main lake has safe enough ice for a group.

Fished the main lake yesterday on about 2.5" of ice caught 31 fish including 20. 5" cut, few small groups of people were near including a group of 3 that walked right through us asked how the ice was and drilled about 15 yards from us, some people just don't get it there was plenty of room to get farther away and when we asked if they were really going to drill that close they said what this isn't far enough from you and continued to drill. We were not too far from shore, didn't dare to go out too far and got vert slushy and wet after we drilled..

We fished by the main state park on the 22nd. We were in 10 ft of water. Ice was about 4 inches thick. My son and I only got about two hours of fishing in. Caught about 30. It was fast and furious. Two cuts about 18-19 inches. One small tiger. All the rest were dinks.

Nope u were that close and we started movin around after you got there, and no one said you had to go deeper just maybe farther down the shoreline, it's more of an etiquette than anything else to give people there space especially a lake of that size it would have been different if it were a community pond, also even after you could tell we were bugged about it you still drilled holes as I'd not to respect us, the reason we somewhat spread out is we have found the quieter less populated areas the better. But if you think your so called 90 feet is ok then have at it.

Fished the west side of the lake today. Ice was around 6 inches thick every where we fished. Fished in 10-12 feet of water. Caught grundles of fish in the 10-13 inch range, a half dozen in the 14-15 inch range and 4 that were in the 18-22 inch range. Roads sucked, but the fishing was awsome!

I was there yesterday, fished the main lake. Ice ranged from 8" to some spots at 2". I managed to catch around 20 fish mostly small cutts and 3 tigers. One tiger was 21" and around 3 pounds. On a scary note I did watch a 4 wheeler go through the ice. It took 4 guys to pull it out and it looked like the engine was swamped. Looked like every one was okay. So watch out for the wet spots in the ice!!!!!

ATV on the ice this early... all I can say is "no BRAIN no PAIN"!

That's just kinda lazy. I have a bad back and can't WAIT to get the ATV on the ice, but I'm also patient enuff to wait for a GOOD SOLID 6-8! It's called pull your sled by HAND to not die. [signature]

We saw one go partially in as well. By the main state park. They got it going after turning it on its sideto drain out the water. Ice is way too thin for the wheelers right now.

To a degree, I can understand a little bit of frustration if it's out over the main lake with tons of surface area all around. Scofield is popular enough that I'd have a hard time justifying it though.

Early ice season is always pretty crowded there and safe ice is at a premium. People have their spots that they'd like to fish and if there's already a group in that place, getting close is the best they can do. The first group in the area doesn't get to lay claim to more area than they've already drilled, IMO. They got there first and had their pick. Now it's someone else's turn. Seems fair to me. All the while, it seems as though some common courtesy or diplomacy could be used, on the part of people who are showing up later. If that isn't enough to smooth out the arrival, then someone's out of line. I just don't see how people could end up having drama over 15yds of separation. Maybe if the original party had to hike a good distance first, there'd be a real gripe. [signature] |
