Picked up lavaman and met Chickenslayer at Mantua just before 7 this morning. The snow was coming down, and never quit, though it did let up at times. 2 1/2 inches of ice - maybe a hare more - with about 4 or more inches of snow on top. Once you made your way out about 250 yards, the ice started popping with your step. Still, no one that I was aware of went through.
Slow morning of fishing. Dink perch, a few trout, a couple of bluegills, and a little largemouth. Lavaman caught 2 really nice trout. But like I said, pretty slow. Still good to get out and meet new faces.

I was out there as well. We (joe, Shane , and I ) were fishing by the boat ramp. We found 3 inches of ice with 6 inches of snow and slush on top. The ice was fine but we were a bit nervous since it was so wet. Almost looked like the ice was melting but it wasn't. We caught a couple 12 inch perch and some(4) trout, one of which was a 18 incher.Nice[cool]. No pics though. Next time...
We need to have a BFT get together soon. Maybe next weekend.

Nice job on the perch! And the trout. And yeah, a get together would be good. With the colder weather this week, we shouldn't have to worry too much about the ice. I'd be game for next weekend. Saturdays work the best for me.

Nice report. Too bad the gils weren't biting like mad like they usually do. Were you on top of a weedbed, or in a nice hole in between the weedbeds? I've found over the years that being in between the weedbeds and not on top of one is key this time of year...

The last 2 years, I have mostly been on top of a weed bed and just killed them. We were in water that was a little deeper than what I have fished in years past. But it is ok. We will find them. They are in there.

Great to get out on the ice again though isn't it. Thanks for the report.

Hey OutForTrout we need to meet out there again soon. I will probably try Mantua again this weekend, you should see if you can make it up here. Yesterday was fairly slow, but did manage some decent trout.
