Fishing report Saturday 1-05-13
We had a few stops in the morning so we got a late start.
Finally got on the water just before noon and headed to the wash. Saw a fellow NSC member fishing and he gave us the 411 on the shad. The bait was in about 4 feet of water, all were Gizzard Shad and in three sizes.
The biggest shad were about the size of your hand and the smallest were about 2 inches.

The fish were in 25 foot to about 15 foot and right out in the middle of the lake. Dropper rig (or rock fish rig) and Carolina set up was the ticket along with the westward drift at 3mph. The fish were right on the bottom in the mud. All the fish were pulling drag and healthy. Average fish was 1-1/2 to 2 pounds biggest was 2.4 pounds. We caught 35 Stripers and 2 LM Bass (released the LMB and a few Stripers).

Water temp was about 58 degrees air temp was 50. We lost about 10 fish due to chaos of triple-Double hookups (3 people, 2 poles each). The last tournament we used circle hooks and had issues with hookups, this time we used octopus hooks and stuck a lot more fish.
The P-Line still has break off issues in cold water, broke off at the hook-set on 4 different poles at 10# and 12#. Lost the whole rig with the egg weight, Carolina keeper and hook, so I know it’s not my knots and the eyelets are clear of abrasions.
(More details and information are available at NSC meetings and weigh-ins. Meetings are free and everyone is welcome. Next meeting is 1-11-13 at Bas Pro Shop (upstairs in the conservation room @ 7pm. The new season starts in March.)
