burbot advise Flaming Gorge
#1
In your opinion, are the larger burbot in deeper water say 40'. Would you move in closer when fishing for lakers to fishing for burbot?

We plan on heading out to anvil tomorrow. Out plan is to hit the lakers at 60 feet, then around 4, move in closer to 20-40 ft. I also read opinions that flatlands are as good as rocky for them. Please critique.

In my experience, the larger burbot aren't necessarily in deeper water. However, I haven't caught a burbot over 30" yet. At night, I have caught many 25 - 28" burbot in water less than 30' deep. Although that is the depth I usually fish. During the day I have caught large burbot while jigging for lake trout at 65'.

I fish the rocky points but also fish the more gradual slopeing shorelines that have large gravel and cobble sized rock component. I do see people fishing the flats and backs of bays but don't know how productive it is. Give it a try and let us know how it goes.
