Rockport 2-9-13
#1
Fished the Rock Saturday with a buddy that had never been on the ice. showed him some setups and got to fishing after a very labor intensive hand auger workout through the 2 feet of ice, dont have an exact measure on it, but the black screw part of my strikemaster lazer was all the way in the hole before we broke through to water, thankfully two holes were all we needed for the day.

set up near the middle of the lake over approx 35 to 40 FOW. first drop hit bottom and picked up 6 inches...PERCHO was his name-o.

got jigs wet about 2pm left at 5pm with 29 perch. caught first few on crawler and meal worm didnt seem to matter which one they both worked. put on a perch eye to see if i could get faster action than a fish every 5 minutes and the rate went down to a fish about every 3. we took turns staying out of each others way unhooking perch. no trout came through we know of, didnt even try to get any, we had fun with the yellow striped ones.

good outing for a rookie and sure beat the alternative of watching my wife bake cookies with her sister all day. although they are not bad to look at either [Wink]

never did storm on us, W slightly blew for half to one hour, got colder but no storm. Ice was solid on edges except for the first 4 inches off the mud, I blame the mud. it was sticky as all get out, made pulling the sled feel like it was full of cement.

anyway, have not seen a rockport report for a while, so there yall go. tight lines.

Bad Fish.

forgot one thing, fish size was better than PV, we managed a couple 10 or 11 inchers and most were 7 or 8 with a few going down to 5 or 6 inch but nothing smaller. and they are getting pot bellied in there. not sure for spawn or just getting fat. but they are fun. L8er.

Just right at the point where the muddy shoreline met the edge of the ice. j/k [laugh]

I parked on the west side of the lake at the third pullout from the dam with a potty. went out to the middle of lake and drilled. was out maybe 60 yards more than anyone else the closest guy and his son to us as I walked by and talked to and he said he was in 26 to 30 FOW. they caught one 11 inch perch they said. pretty much straight out from the parking area i was at.

I was out looking for perch by the dam, east by the cliffs. Was jigging on the bottom 35-40 fow. Nothing on bottom. But the trout were quite active. probably 15 bites between the jaw jacker and my windlass jig. 5 bows landed. 2 were better than 16 inches. Trout were suspended from 0-10 feet under the ice. one of my better days on rockport. especially since I had the waders and fly rod to hit the weber and hit the hard deck instead.
