I'm not being sarcastic, but have you ever eaten them? Some of the best tasting fish around here. Plus they are "relatively" easily caught which makes them tons of fun for kids and adults alike. I think they look cool too!

They taste great , and I wish I could catch a 12 inch perch, why it's awesome, don't know why but it is! And I have also seen the state record mud cat and have met the man who caught it! That's an awesome fish too!

Theyre delicious, fun to entice the strike, can provide fast action, and much more Holy than a slimer. And I won't eve start about crappie.[ ]

Perch are top on my list of favorite fish to eat. The urge to snack on fried perch is often so great, that I'd rather spend all day looking for them than fishing for big, trophy sized fighting fish[ ]

All depends on your preference, I personally prefer the trout and Kokanee. If you could find big enough perch they would be okay but they have more splines and stickers than a fish ought to have and if you don't prepare them correctly they have a nasty taste to them. But if done right they are pretty good if you like light flaky mild flavored fish. It just takes a lot of work to get enough to eat. Sort of like mourning doves to me, ya can eat them but its not worth killing a flock for one meal. But that's my take, I know I'm in a big minority on this site but someone needs to represent the opposite side right? Later J

Funny how guys taste stuff so differently, i'm exact opposite, i can cook perch anyway anyhow and never find a "nasty taste". I can simply toss a fillet in a little butter and Perch is delicious to me. Kokes are alright, but slimers on the other hand, I think almost every way you cook them they have a nasty taste. Especially all the nasty planters that most guys keep that have mushy white meat. A wild high mountain or river trout I can handle.

Did you get the message that they taste great, certainly not "less filing"[cool] One other reason I like to go after them is because they're less common, kind of a novelty, in Eastern Utah and in Starvation they grow to an impressive size for their species. I'm a multi-species guy and love catching large specimens of all species of gamefish. Fish for them on an ultralite rod and they are a bunch of fun too. I will agree they are more of a nuisance if all you can find are 4 to 6 inchers.

I am with you. We had a gourmet cook in camp prepare Crappie and I preferred the trout as did the people in my party. It didn't taste nasty, and was prepared well, just didn't like it. I don't like Tilapia either. Bass and Brook Trout, are pretty good. TD's Catfish is outstanding.

[#0000FF][cool]Plenty of room on this site for folks who like any kind of fish. And I like 'em all. But perch have always had a special appeal. Don't know why. They are small and sometimes pesky, when you are fishing for other species. But they can be good sized and provide good fishing when the "other guys" don't cooperate. They are also mighty toothsome and you ain't gonna ruin a fishery by keeping a good number of them.
You impress me as the kind of person who would walk into a cat show with a couple of pit bulls on a leash behind you...and then let them loose. Me too. Love perch. Can't stand cats.

Quote:As the founder and chief angling officer of the Price Perch Posse (PPP), I would like to offer a few of the reasons we pursue the pesky perch.
. . .
A group of us went to Starvation Reservoir yesterday and had good fishing for perch and rainbow trout. I am currently taking a break from the sometimes tedious chore of filleting 37 nine to ten inch perch and one rainbow trout.
I thought the PPP stood for something else - plethora of plump perch - was it? Maybe Patience.... and some.
Don't know how you could make a perch taste nasty J, well - maybe I do - I need to learn how to fry, and do it - like - outside - so it's not all shared with "the house".
But deep fried, pan fried, baked, grilled, poached, souped, sauced - it's all good.
I'll still take a chunky Crappie over a Perch or Gill for pure white-panfish "flavor".
Some fish have a lot more flavor of their own. Trout, Kokes, Catfish - all among those. Some benefit more from smoking procedures, but a good grilling or baking - slap 'em with the cajun, and it's game on!
[#800000]CS NOTE: This was my post - meant a reply, but must have got an edit. Sorry TopH20 - didn't mean to confuse or hijack. [/#800000]
