Hit Magic at first light. They had a tourney going on but we weren't in it. Still the action was steady till about 3:00. We ended up with two limits of trout and a good batch of perch. By the afternoon on the east side the ice was hard to get off and you would go through. That wasn't the bad part. Try dragging a sled with 150 lbs. of gear through solid mud. Days are limited for magic ice I think.

Is it still safe to fish? Was thinking if heading there tomorrow. Is there a safer place to get on or off than others? Never been there!

I caught a ton of perch...none larger than 8 inches. great day and did not win anything at the tourney.
How big was the perch you caught. 12.5 won the tourney fro perch and i think it was 21.5 for trout.

biggest perch i caught was 9 inches, biggest trout 2.5 lbs, almost 19 inches. If a guy carries a plank with him you can get on and off safely.

That's a nice couple of limits. Too bad you didn't get any big ones. Or did you just throw those back? I ended up with one that was a shade over 22 inches on Friday (I think, I need to look at the pics). Also lost 2-4 other pretty good ones. I ended up catching somewhere between 10 and 20 trout. I really didn't count. Also caught about 30 perch even though I wasn't targeting perch most of the time. About 7 or those were worth filletting. Look to the ice fishing contest section for a picture of the 22 inch rainbow. I'll post it later today.

we turned trout loose until about 11;00 before we decided we better take what were getting which was smaller ones. Only three were of any decent size. Happens some days. Sure enjoy using my vex on magic, the trout would come in small schools, I would bring my jig off bottom and, whack they would be on it. I think it really maximizes my chances with those trout. Do you get your big ones more on the bottom or throughout the water column?

All the bigger ones I had on came from a break near the shore where it dropped from shoreline to about 15 FOW within about 40 yards. All were within 3 feet of the bottom. I went on a long walk drilling hole after hole looking for deeper water when it got slow for me after about 10 but never found any number of fish until I went back to the 8-15 dropoff where I started fishing. The deepest water I found was only 18 ft.
