armed in a canoe

This seems like the right place for this question. I'm going to be doing a lot of canoeing in and out of Iowa come summer. I will also have my ccw and will be wanting to carry. I've looked all week on line and even the dnr web site and cant find an answer as to whether or not weapons are allowed on the river or not. Haven't decided on handgun or shotgun yet, but would like to know the laws first. Far as I know the dnr controlls waterways. Any ideas where to look for a definitive answer would be greatly appreciated.
