I just picked up a nine foot pontoon with a Minkota 30. What size and brand battery is the best for the money? I know some say the biggest you can carry, but at some point it might be over kill. I have noticed not all deep cycle batteries have the same info. Some have reserve and no amp hour ratings. Some have amp hours an no reserve. Any insight from you folks would be great.

Best value will be the great big, heavy Deep Cycle #29 sold at Walmart. Don't need a special charger. Check water levels, make sure to put it in a battery box or Ice chest. I can run for 3 days about 5 to 7 hours a day on low setting.

I went really cheap; just take one of the deep cycle batteries off my travel trailer and use it for the pontoon. Probably big time excess capacity but I don't mount the battery until I'm knee deep in the lake already anyway so weight isn't a factor to me. I probably should fuse protect between them but I use it to power the fish finder as well as the Minn Kota.
