Has anyone tried or had a underwater camera. How good do they work and how far can you see in clear water. Thinking about getting one, but don’t know if there are good.

Is it possible to record what your aquaview sees? A video like that would be fun to have. :-)
I can't wait for freeze up. I miss icefishing. I didn't even make it to Strawberry once last year!

If you have the right cables (probably can get them at Radio Shack) one could attach a video camera to it, and still see the monitor.

My son-in-law has an Aquaview camera and we use it only for ice fishing. It is alot of fun and like some have said you get a little wrapped up watching the fish. The one thing we have found out is that it only works while the sun is up. As soon as it goes down we can no longer get a picture. But we do enjoy it.
Bring on the ice. I can't wait, I have been going through my ice gear getting it ready.

Hope you find you answer, funny to see someone from North Carolina posting on the Utah board! Goot in search for info!
Do you have any ties to Utah? Or is it just because its the most active board on BFT. Just curious.

I own an aqua-vu and agree with Kent. At clear lakes I can see 15-20 ft it is very intresting working in conjuction with your fish finder. It is amazing how little the cone angle is on a fishfinder. Fish to the left and right can be seen on the aquaview that are not picked up on the fishfinder.
You can video tape from the video out on the aquaview. My video camera also allows me to take still digital pictures of what I see. Because it is digital I can download the video on my computer.
As to the good an aqua-vu does for fishing here is my two cents.
1. It keeps the kids busy when they get bored fishing
2. It helps you see the fish that don't want to bite (That is bad)
3. It helps you identify the species
4. It helps you find new structure
5. The best thing is icefishing and watching light strikes.
I would also recommend an aqua-vu with a directional indicator. I is hard to tell which way the camera is pointing without one. (SV series)
Personally I think they should build then into the hulls of boats with zoom capabilities and works in all water contidtions

Thanks for all the information. I have been thinking about getting one for a long time. aquaman said I should post here, because he through someone had one on here. It would be great if they put them on boats. What kind do you all have. I was thinking about the Aquaview for $200, but I saw a nice Aquaview at the Bass Pro shop for $500, It have red lights on it to see at night.

I believe Sportsmans in Riverdale still has them for rent starting at $30.00 or $35.00 a day.

I figured he knew someone here.
I think its great to see folks from other states chime in on the Utah board. They're more likely to get a reaponse from here than on most of the other boards.
I look in on several states boards, Colorado, New Mexico, Kansas (to see what Poncho is up to) Texas & Arizona all on a regular basis just to see what is up in places familiar to me. Most states have very, very little action.

"I would also recommend an aqua-vu with a directional indicator. It is hard to tell which way the camera is pointing without one." Amen. The best technique is to put a large spoon on and jig it while gradually turning the camera -- until the jig shows up. Some models also have a thermometer on the camera, which could be helpful in finding areas where there are warm springs or other changes in water temperature.
Being able to watch fish bite while ice fishing is both a blessing and a curse. It is extremely easy to get "buck fever" (or is it "fish fever"?) and set the hook too early. This is particularly easy to do when the fish is swimming away from the camera, because the fish hides your jig. It is funny to see your jig going flying toward the surface and the fish still there. Being able to see how fish respond to your jigging technique can also be extremely beneficial. All of this talk about ice fishing with an Aqua-Vu is getting me excited about ice fishing and I'm not even a big ice-fishing fan (although I have a nice two-man ice shelter, a fish finder, and of course my Aqua-Vu).
If you want to read more about them, and also to get an explanation of how much benefit you get from infrared or colored lights visit their site at:

I've never had the chance to fish with an aquaview, but it sounds very interesting.
