Last year I ended up with a cab full of water after pulling into the lake (Hite @ Lake Powell) too far to launch my boat. I'm looking at getting a extension, any suggestions, length, manufacturer, price, etc? I ask because there are a lot of choices online. PS I'm pulling with my Toyota Highlander.

In fact if you guys have one laying around I'd buy it from you. Otherwise I'll head over to the trailer shop.

Dunno if they make them for boat trailers but I hauled logs in South Dakota and the trailer I pulled had a telescoping that would telescope out almost 10'. The reason was so I could get long enough to comply with the bridge weight limits. I'm sure a good welding shop could build you one.

I use to have a trailer that I could extend, I did it my self..
It's not hard if you have all the tools, it may cost about $100. (just a guess) for parts..
Most depends on size of boat as to how good it may work, what size boat you got and how much extension do you need??

It looks like online extensions are about $100. I was thinking of extending out 18'-24" inches, but really it's a guess on how much lenght I need. I'm pulling an 18' Starcraft fish n' ski. Here's one I'm looking at on ebay:

I have one that I only used a couple of times one summer. It is about 24 inches long but from hole for the pin to the hole for the pin it is 18 inches, Which gives you 18 inches extention. I'd be glad work out whatever.

For that price, buy 4 and your still under $100 and you have a 4 ft extention. I have never needed to do that because I have a tilt trailer and a two stage winch[ ].

Would it have the strength to connect multiples together? Seems like a lot of joints (weak points) if you were to put two or three together?

Mine is only 12" hole-to-hole, but it's very heavy, and solid steel except for the last 7" where the hitch has to slide in. I made an extension for my electrical hookup, and have to use extra-long safety chains of course. I don't like to use it if the weight is very heavy, because there's probably tremendous torque on it, but for my smaller boats it works great. I bought mine at an RV store. The harbor freight ones would be a good deal if they're built pretty heavy. It could be pretty horrible if it broke! I personally wouldn't dare to put even 2 together unless the weight is pretty light.

I would not do it to haul you boat, just to launch it. Drive to the launch with it hooked up like normal, then but the extension on, launch, fish and when you go to retrieve your boat pull it out of the water with the extenion in place, then switch it back to your normal towing setup. I'm sure it would be plenty strong enough to launch and retreive your boat. Remember this setup is steel and although it might be sloppy with that many connections, it is very strong and as long as those loose point don't bang back and forth over a long distance you will be fine, imo.

The one I did was a telescoping one on a 17' bass tracker boat it went out to 10' is all and back for towing..
It would be real hard to get any more out of one safely..
I would half to see the trailer to see if we could..
Your link did not work..

I dealt with this last year. I bought a used ranger and ended up paying, $1500 in repairs when someone turned off the small SUV that I use to tow it, with the rear end submerged at Sand Hollow. When starting it filled the emissions system with water.
I built a four foot extension which works great everywhere. It is kind of a pain because I do not tow with it except from the parking lot to the launch and back. Extending the hitch changes weight distribution and increases weight. This is a beefy extension but its just not worth risking someone getting hurt.
Anyway, depending on how your trailer is set up it can be easy or tough. Of course the ranger trailer was a tough one. I had to weld some brackets onto it. The extension itself was built with 1/8 inch steel. If you're interested let me know and I'll post some pics and help as much as I can.
The whole thing cost around $100 but you could probably do it for less depending on your setup.

My boat launches pretty good, it's just the undeveloped "ramp" at hite that I'm afraid of. I figure an 18" extension is probably about as much as I would need, but I guess it depends on water level, etc.
