Question about a reel
#1
So I am looking to upgrade my setup since I am going to start fishing in the Ohio River here soon. The section of the Ohio I live by is notorious for GIANT catfish. I also make a lot of trips to Florida. I use a Pflueger Trion GX-7 on an 1102 Ugly Stick CALB. While this is completely fine for lake fishing, I fear the reel at 8lb Test wouldn't hold up so well on bigger fish.

I was looking into the Okuma Raw II as a reel for when I am going for some bigger targets. I know it's meant for saltwater, but I highly doubt that makes a difference and it will be used for saltwater from time to time. The questions I have are: Is there a reel you'd recommend over it? Would this reel be overkill?

I don't think if your after the bigger cats that is over kill at all. Some other spinning reels that I know some of my friends and family use for big cats and carp are the Okuma Trio, Okuma Cedros and the Daiwa Exceler. Most people I know that go after the 30lb plus cats use bait casters.
After you get other suggestions and do decide which reel you want send me a PM and I might be able to save you some money. Ron
