non boater UBF qualifier report
#1
I was a non-boater in this years UBF qualifier on lake Powell. My first time fishing for the state team and I loved every minute of it. I was able to get the big fish for non-boaters on Day 1 and it held out for the big fish of the tournament. But I only caught two fish and I failed to make adjustments throughout the day to get fish #'s 3, 4 and 5. I lost a big one...but that happens to everyone. My big one weighed 4.68.

Day 2
I was determined to get as much weight as possible, and where I failed on day one, I made up for on day 2. The fish were just not biting, my boater was even pretty vocal about how the bite shut down. So I tied on this little secret weapon I have for when that happens and got 3 keepers and a big walleye in 5 casts. Spent the rest of the day trying to bolster my weight and moved from 18th to just outside the top 10. My big fish was 2.75 and he had a twin I got as well.

Final day: I needed help to make the team, I knew I also needed a pretty good limit. I was pretty disappointed that I did not have a bite until 1:00 in the afternoon. Before that I was thinking I just might choke it away. Then I got hammered by a a huge largemouth on a crank bait, he was tough to get in the boat, he went 3.70 and I thought here we go...4 more like him and I am in business. The next spot I came to I threw the same crank to a rocky point just like before and got another just under 3 lber and a smallie about 1 lb. We had to get back so I could not fish for a limit ...one more cast..bam another decent smallie. Packed up the rods and went back in with only 4 fish and a ton of great times and memories.

Looks like a great time. I hope early next week I'm posting some similar shots.
