Was just wondering if anyone is willing to share some spots and techniques for catfish in the Bear river? I've fished the refuge area numerous times with very limited success. Are there other areas or spots along the river to try? PM if necessary. Btw, I release all fish and I'm not trying to win any contest.
Thanks,
Justin

Ah well - jeepers, you put it that way, what's the point!
Guess it depends on how far north you're thinking. I'm not versed with the Refuge or lower Bear, but I'd done on on Cutler, and some of the Bear north of there.
I think one of the keys is location. Timing, bait choice, presentation method - it all adds up.
If you can find places where little water connects to big water - inlets, connections to sloughs, etc.
Also pools, eddies, woodpiles.
Cats will work shallower and upstream to stage for spawning. Then later into summer I believe they move to deeper holes.
I'll send you a PM with some specifics.

One of my favorite spots is to launch out of the benson marina and head up the bear river throwing m lines near cat tails, sunken timber and any deep pools in the the middle of the run. Also if you launch out of cache junction and fish along the train brdge pilings or along the shore atartign around late may to early june i have had alot of luck there using a night crawler tipped with wd40.
