I know theres a couple guys here who have the Accurist. If memory is correct, I believe Tomegun is one. Anyways, Tomegun or anyone else out there who owns the Accurist, I have two questions;
First, do you own the Performance Tuned?. If so is it worth the extra money?
Second, the centrifugal brake. Is it magnetic? I own a couple shimano's that I have been very happy with, they have what they call a centrifugal brake, but its basically a magnet on a slide bar that increases the resistence on the spool. Of course theres the friction brake as well.
Quantums web site doesnt have much info, and before I make the drive into the city to pick one up, I wanted to get as much info as possible.
HFT, have you got any down at your shop?

I have the Accurist AC500CX. I have had this real for 3 years and have had no problems with it. I think the centrifugal system is magnetic. I payed $98.00 for my real at Sportsman warehouse. Hope this helps you a little.

I have the AC500PT,its the best baitcaster I own,it has a adjustable centrifugal system. The side plate comes off to get at the spool. It also has a flippin switch on the right side which is great for letting out line fishing for Walleyes with bottom bouncers.I have used it for casting for Tigermuskies.PT is "performance tuned"Don't mean to sound like an advertisement, but I like this reel.
Mike
PS any questions?

[cool]No...if you go to Ebay there is a note that Bob already bought all the reels. He is singlehandedly trying to keep the economy going.

[#000080]Hey Mike, I have one Accurist and 5 Shimano Curados. I pretty much stop using Quantums except for ice fishing. I do have an Accurist 401c(I believe this a lower end model). My favorite reels are the two Curado Superfrees I picked up last year. They are so smooth.[/#000080]
[#000080] Also in the last 11 months, I have picked up 4 Shimano stradic 2000fg's and 2 Stradic 2500fh(the new and improved line for 2003). I do like the Quantum Kinetics. I believe the are PT's. [/#000080]
[#000080] I would say stick with the Shimano's. I have no complaints. I just got my Bass Pro Shops xmas catalog. I'll see if there are any deals. Remember, in January BPS and Cabelas put last years models sale. Watch the web sites bargin caves and clearance sales. Touchdown 49ers!!![cool] [/#000080]

You know Walleyebob, I was on there yesterday looking around at what they have, but I have never bought anything on E-bay so I am a bit hesitant even though I know tons of people who have bought there with no problem at all.
Just a bit scared of a new thing I guess. I know that if I give HFT my credit card number and have him order me one, I will get it. But as a uneducated, inexpirienced E-bay viewer I dont have the same confidence level there.
It is tempting though. I saw some, new in the box, never used that were much cheaper than the catalogs.

Hey predator, I was more than a bit hesitant when I made my first purchase on ebay. I threw down 3,500.00 for a four wheeler I had never even seen. But, guess what? It was a better deal than anything I had looked at. I'm totally pleased with it.
Dennis gave me some good advice for buying on ebay and I have been happy with everything I have purchased.
As a matter of fact, I'm sitting here looking at my new Fin-Nor reel that just came. It feels like a REEL sweet item.
Anyway, read the feedback for the seller and if it's a really pricey item, you can even e-mail a few folks who have done business with him or her.
If everything checks out,,,buy it!!!
Give it a try, you will save some bucks.
