Weber River report
#1
Hello everyone, I went fishing on the Weber this past weekend and had an excellent day fishing. Weather was great, some rain/snow, some sun, some clouds...everything a person could expect from mother nature this time of year.

Fished a couple of stretches above the Taggart exit. In one area fished a section with a huge redd that almost extended the entire width of the river bottom, and was about 5-7 yards long. I caught around 10-15 browns in this small section in about 30 minutes, the largest fish was around 18-20" and smallest around 9". I used a glow bug pattern that I tied with a mix of peach and yellow yarn. At times they were fighting for it as I watched it bounce along the bottom. It was almost like catching them on a dry fly, watching them head straight for the glow bug, then setting it as soon as they closed their mouth.

I made sure that the fish I caught were brought in as fast as possible and released with the utmost care. Most of the ones I did catch though were the scavengers hanging out at the sides and back of the redds.

The most amazing thing to me about the day though was the high trout ratio I had...I had nothing but browns and a few cutts all day, then on my last fish of the day...whitey...I knew it would be too good to be true to have a "whitefish free" day on that stretch. That made it about 20+ trout and 1 whitey. Oh well, it was still one of the best days I've had on the Weber since early last spring.

Always fishing....Barbless.

Great report barbless. I'll be heading out to the Provo to hopefully do the same thing in a week or two. We'll see when I get a free minute. I'm just excited that we keep getting more rain and snow. Let it continue and fill up all the lakes, rivers and streams!!!
