Anyone here had the chance to hit the pig? Anyone heard of any reports? I know last year it was pretty good, but this year the reports have been few and far between. The few reports I've heard, was that it was slow. Be interesting to see how the ice fishing will do this year.
Hey IFG! When does it get an ice cap?

When Hyrum has just started to ice over, Porcupine will be safe. Around the second weekend of December is a good bet. Depending on weather. I know a guy that lives in Hyrum and has nothing better to do on the weekends. I can ask him to check it out for us after Thankgiving.

I was up there every week last year and it didn't have safe ice until mid December. The ice fishing was good to poor most of the time. My best trips were before ice over fishing from the shore, and the first time on the 2" thick ice. The big browns are just finishing with their spawn and are hunting. I wish I was still up there, but now I have to learn new southern Utah lakes.

What did you end up catching the browns on? Do you ever target the kokes when you are up there?

This is a late report on Porcupine. In late Oct I made two trips. I fished from the Dam with a fly and a bubble. I caught about 20 fish total the biggest was a rainbow about 15". Of the 20 fish about eight were 13-15 inches. Most were rainbow's, a couple were brown's and one was a cut, the rest were this years fingerling plants.
I haven't been back since other than today at noon I ran out at lunch to check on the ice. There was no Ice on it at all and none on Hyrum.

[#ff0000]Good to hear someone had some luck up there this year. It got the best of me. We fished it deep like we have years past with great success and nothing this year. Sounds like they are up top feeding, the trout anyhow. Thanx for the report and welcome! [/#ff0000]

I fished it several times this year. This is the first year I ever caught any Kokes in the summer time trolling. Did not catch many, MuskyHunter did better on them than I did. The last time up I caught a nice Brown on a frog flatfish while trolling. Years ago I just ice fished there and all I caught was Kokes. Have not ice fished in several years now.
