Middle Provo Mystery Fish
#1
So a few weeks ago I was on the Middle Provo and saw something that was unusual to me. A fish attacked my lure and was unfortunately not hooked. The thing about this was the fish's belly came out of the water revealing nothing but orange, like blaze orange, all of it.
What this could have been has been bothering me. Was it a Brook? I've never seen them there and it would have been pretty big for a Brookie.
Are there albinos in there? Never seen those there either. Maybe a radio active gold fish someone dumped in? Haha I don't know.
I also thought maybe a cutthroat, but it was just solid orange from head to tail and such a deep orange.
Someone help me out here!

Probable a cutt in spawning colors given the time of year.

I've seen suckers prespawn with orange bellies, but usually not bright, striking orange. Interesting.

I caught a smallmouth bass in the Provo River a few years ago. Of course that would not account for an orange belly.

I would have to say from experience .. Albino ....you can find them from Woodland all the way up to Mirror Lake. I have also caught a few from Jordanelle to Deer Creek...

Tiger trout, huh. I'm not asking in a critical way, but wouldn't that mean they had been stocked in Deer Creek if they were in that stretch of the river? I was not too far above DC when this sighting happened.
That would be cool if there are tigers in there!

Albino are pure white. No yellow. Red eyes. BUT, they do stock Palomino which many mistake for Albino. But they do not have red eyes and they are a bit golden colored.

Tiger is sounding like a good possiblity.

Then, that's a goldfish! Mine was 13 inches! It's probably bigger now because I saw it jump about two feet out of the water about a year ago.

Ronald,

If you hook one of these just cut the line, only way to handle them is by wearing a full on Bio Hazard suit. My camera was actually damaged from the radiation, you can hear the clicking and popping sound during the video. The clicking sound is even in my head!

The waters are no longer SAFE
