I get the chance to have my first house trailer experience this weekend. I'm debating on going to Strawberry or Starvation. I'm taking the wife and our 8 month old son and want to camp as close to the water as possible, hence the reason I'm leaning on Starvation. I have never fished from shore there and I'm mostly shooting for trout. Is the Rabbit area a good area to camp/fish? What are your suggestions? If you had to go to one or the other which would it be? I just know the wife and kid aren't going to last long. Any input is appreciated.

There is not much shore fishing in rabbit draw, you would have to drive over to the bridge. if you want to fish from camp go to strawberry.

[#0000FF][cool]There is "primitive" camping and decent shore fishing at both Indian Bay and Knight Hollow (see maps). But it can be "interesting" to get a trailer down into the latter if roads are winter-rutted.
If you want a nicer camp site...with real restrooms nearby...consider the main state park. Some beach camp sites and often decent trout fishing right off the shore...with power bait, worms or lures.
Indian Bay has pit toilets and no running water but it has a wide variety of shoreline fishing opportunities. It warms more quickly early in the year and can be one of the first places to produce perch. Otherwise, usually good for trout. Smallmouth bass and walleyes are likely still a bit deep for shore fishing.
I like Rabbit Gulch but as suggested, there is not much good fishing from shore. It is also primitive camping with no running water or hookups.

FWIW, the road into Knight's is just fine. I saw a couple of trailers down by the beach there a few weeks ago.

[#0000FF]Good to know. Some years the dirt roads get muddy and are turned into obstacle courses by people who gotta play in the mud. I have been out in my tube and watched trailers get into serious difficulties.
I usually don't start hitting that area until around the first of June so I didn't have a current conditions report. I have heard that the trout are plentiful and cooperative though.
