Got the boat. Got the gear. Got the GPS. I am ready to try for some of those big lakers. Bear Lake is 1.5 hours away and the gorge is 4 hours. Is it worth going to the Gorge or is Bear Lake just as good?

Depends if your opinion and my opinion of a big laker differ. Both places are similar in that, if you know how to fish the lake, you can catch them. A word of advice, buy a dozen nightcrawlers and some marshmallows and save yourself a lifetime of misery chasing the elusive monster lake trout.

I think Bear Lake is a good place to start practicing. There's no doubt the gorge is better, bigger and more fish. But you're not going to load up on them just because you have the gizmos. They do take some practice and closer is better for paying dues. However, if ya want other fish while your there, the gorge is great, maybe Jim will share a couple pups. Good luck. J

Go to Bear Lake if you don't have your trolling/downrigging skills fine tuned. Unless you want the rush of catching your downrigger ball in the side of an underwater cliff that suddenly came up from 70ft![laugh]
Bear lake is much easier, plus you will catch something even if your still learning. The gorge isn't as easy.
