Fishing Fort Lauderdale on Happy Day Today with Capt. Zsak
The fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL has been very good. With winds out of the east at 5-7 mph, blue skies – beautiful day for fishing in Fort Lauderdale!!!! Ed and Carol Brennan from Chicago along with friends, Eric and Carol Pauly from Utah chartered the Happy Day Today along with the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL.
We stopped and got a dozen live Goggle Eyes from T&T Bait in the inlet in Fort Lauderdale and headed out to the drop off, which is 1.8 miles from shore in 120 ft. of water. We started off with two plainers, one with a pink and blue sea witch in front of a double hook Bonito strip and the other with a blue and white sea witch in front of a double hook Bonito strip. Surface baits were four Ballyhoos. As we started fishing at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, two minutes into fishing our plainer rod bent over, as line screamed off the reel and to my surprise, a Sailfish was jumping behind the boat. Hooked up on a Sailfish!!!! Carol was our first angler and she jumped into the fighting chair to do battle with the Sailfish. After bringing in the rest of the lines, I started to back down on the fish. With a 100 ft. trace, our mate Jackson will have a fun time wiring in the Sailfish!!! Thirty minutes later, the Sailfish was brought to the side of the boat as Jackson brought the Sailfish into the boat for measurements and picture taking. The 87” Sailfish was released to fight another day. Carol did a fantastic job bringing in her first Sailfish!!!! We set up again and this time a dorsal appeared belonging to a Hammerhead Shark – Ed was the angler. Ed did a great job bringing in the estimated 300 lb. Shark with a 30 tackle – nice job – pictures were taken and Shark was released. Carol was our next angler and caught a 48” Barracuda – pictures were taken and the Barracuda was released. From there we trolled back to the dock at Bahia Mar 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316 catching Tunas and Bonitos along the way.
