Fisheries Update<br> <br>February 15th - February 21st, 2002<br><br> Columbia River sturgeon cooperated with anglers fishing the Kelly Point area and as far upriver as Bonneville over the weekend. A recent influx of fresh smelt has the diamond side gorging on the little critters, though, which has slowed fishing this week. A decision regarding block or daily closures to protect keeper sturgeon is forthcoming from Oregon and Washington Departments of Fish and Wildlife. Smelt dipping in the Cowlitz has been good, and some are being taken on the Lewis at first and last light. Steelheading has been quite good on the North Coast rivers and streams, although it's all catch-and-release for natives now. Avoid using divers and bait to protect wild fish. The hatchery run of winter steelhead is in full swing on the Siletz River, but they've been off the bite. Central Coast streams are putting out steelhead with the Alsea and Umpqua both fishing well. Clackamas and Sandy anglers have been catching steelhead about 60% of which are wild fish. Fishing has really picked up on the rocks and jetties along the coast for rockfish, perch and greenling. Surf perch are being taken from the beaches. Alder, Buck, Dune, Elbow, Erhart, Geogia, Lost, Munsel, North Georgia and Perkins, Carter and Clewox Lakes and Thissel Pond are scheduled to be stocked this week with catchable trout. <br><br>Get much more at http://www.theguidesforecast.com/<br><br>Get more Oregon fishing information at<br>http://www.theguidesforecast.com
