Has anyone used the Shasta shuttle Hawk

What are your thoughts? I've never seen it before and if it works will make me one happy fisherman.

For some reason when I use my iPad, the videos will not embed so I pasted a link above.

I have a couple and they do work good. There are a few tricks to get used to but once you use them a few times you are set. I have also lost one which is pretty easy to do so what I did is cut a small groove on both sides of the opening that goes on your cable and put a small tough rubber band there as a safety catch which did the trick. The little green plastic stops go on kinda easy to take on and off but are also easy to drop in the drink. You can get those seperate. I called them and they sent me a dozen for a couple bucks. Good luck........Fishon

I've been using them for years. I really like them. They make stacking lines on a rigger using stacker releases pretty much obsolete in my opinion. The only exception is if you are trolling very slow (< 1mph) then I can get them to descend on the rigger cable. But I use them on Bear Lake for trolling for cutts and lakers as well as on Flaming Gorge for trolling for kokes and they work great. Plus, if a fish hits on the Shuttle Hawk, you don't have to bring your ball up to reset.

One tip I've learned. I hook my line to the release which is attached to the Hawk and then keep my line tight and pull my rod towards the front of the boat when you are letting the Hawk descend. Once it reaches the "stopper" I'll then bring my rod back toward the rear of the boat where my rod holders are located.

At Kokanee tackle.com they are $12.99. Usually any place that sells shasta tackle carries them. It seems like I got mine from Sportsman Warehouse.......Fishon

Thanks for the tip. I typically don't run stackers. Would it work just to run down to the ball? Minimum I coul dput the stopper just above the ball I guess. I think this will make life much much easier instead of running a ball up and down constantly. Once I'm at a depth and they are biting it would be much better to just clip on and let it float down to the ball.

Yes, they will work just to run down at the ball, just put the provided stop a couple inches above. Once you learn how to use these you will never turn back and you will be stacking on every down rigger!! I prefer to change out the release that comes with them to my preferred release. I saw some at sportmans in Riverdale last week.

Before I got electric downriggers, I used the shuttle hawks as a way to raise and lower my line, without having to crank up the downrigger weights.
It works great that way.
I do stack once in a while with them but they can cause your lines to tangle.

If its slow I'll try to stack again, for me it's just asking for a mess. I'm pretty excited to try these out, half the time I'm reeling up or down trying to get lines out. Now I should eliminate most of that.

i have used one and really didn't care for it.i found it just to much of a hassel. it took to long to get down and wasn;t very predictable on where it would stop.i like to use a stacker release from seps there about ten bucks and are easier to use than the shuttle hawk,an much simpler to use.p/s if any one wants one i can dig mine out for you, just pm me.
