I am planning a camping trip up to Lost Lake in a couple of weeks. I heard that the MLH (150) is open all the way over the top of Bald Mtn. Pass, but was wondering if anyhone has been up recently and seen how much snow is still lingering in the area of Trial Lake/Lost Lake.

As of Sunday Lost Lake still has some small patches of snow but that's about it. Nothing deep for the most part. The road into the campground was snow free as far as I could see from the highway. Lost Lake was nearly empty last November when I ice fished it a few times. Not sure good numbers of fish survived other than the gazillion 3-5 inch brookies I saw cruising the shallows. Fishing has been slower there than other years in May and early June. The few bows I've caught all look big and healthy. DWR will probable dump several thousand planter bows in there any day now. Trial is easily accessable but head over to some of the other lakes and still 3 feet snow drifts to contend with. Not a bad thing- all the float tubers and other rift raft[laugh] were crowding Trial. The dogs and I had Washington all to ourselves for a couple hours. In a couple weeks you'll have to work harder to avoid the crowds as the snow recedes.
