Fun Newton trip FATHERS Day
#1
Camped up at Newton with the fam from thurs til sun. Fished with my lil guy and slayed the crappie, perch and gills. Was fortunate enough to catch these 2 tigers
Lake is low and will be wakeless in a month or so as the DNR will be having the launch ramp repaired.

Did see 1 dead 40" tiger that me and my son buried, as we do to any dead muskie we find out of respect for the awesome toothy beasts..

Weather was awesome and fishin' was good!

Enjoy the pics

Sounds like a fun trip Bry, thanks for sharing your report and pics. Awesome looking tigers as well. Your son is fishing already? What is he, 2 or 3 years old now?

Great fish, I see you have the lucky Weber State Football shirt on. Way to represent the Wildcats!! I have never had any luck at Newton and am always a little envious of those who have figured that place out. Nice Work!

It was nice chatting with you out there. I didn't have as good of luck. The little girls in our camp out fished me.

Hey nice looking Muskie. Were you trolling or casting for them? Too bad the water will be so low this year.

Caught both casting. Newton will get real low this year, dnr will close the eamp soon and the laje is supposed to be wakeless til ice up

Is there anywhere you can launch a small jon boat on a trailer if the ramp is closed?

The size of that lake, it should be wakeless year round, if you axe me! 150ft, hmmm, how wide it that lake anywhere's across? Seems they could use more enforcement of the laws that exist, from what I've experienced.

Personally - I'd love to see them NEVER repair that ramp. I like it best when it's low, and becomes an anglers lake.
But - I've got work buddies that enjoy their wakeboarding there, and a boss who pulls water for his fields, so all kinds of tugs and pulls on that resource.

Heya Bryce - way to go. Didn't mention the lunker bucket mouths! Way cool. Can expect great things out of that kid following in your footsteps. Great teacher! So you hauling in a 40" Muskie on a Snoopie pole? Sheeez! Set the drag, set the drag.

So how were the crappie? Find any over teens?

I was out on the river Sunday, and had thought about heading that way - kinda wish I had. Ever caught a channel out of them waters? I know they are there, just never targeted them. Hear back in the day it was quite a cat-fishery.

Known folks to launch from the S-West side, but also seen plenty of muddy tire trails. With a Jon boat - I'd suggest if you can get close enough to push it off your trailer, and count on ratcheting up. Need to give it a try myself. If you'd going - be glad to buddy up for a venture. (nice to have a tow-pal if needed!)

i wish the lake was wakeless! way to small for all the madness that happens up there. As far as the crappie well nothing over 10" a guy up there did manage a couple 12"s and some 11" perch which was a nice site

As far as the largies I got a 13" is all... Newton was fun too bad its not wakeless,

Hope all is well 'Yote

Used to catch 8 to 20lb channels on baby bass shad raps back in the day. Not to mention all the cats we caught actually targeting them. Newton was soooo much better before those stupid Frankenstein fish. Hate tigers!

Nice job on the muskies! I know I am not out there anymore, but it's still nice to see success being had on the waters I fished a lot while out there. Also, it's nice to see some healthy-looking fish. Last year out there, the ones we managed to catch were skinny. Looks like they've bounced back ok so far.

It's actually not the dwr that's planning to repair the boat ramp or that sets the rules for the lake, it's the irrigation company that owns it, we'll see what happens.
