Rivers End Tackle report
#1
July 19, 2013

Best Bites
Striped Bass - Well it was good locally all week but a couple of reports that came in this morning were on the downside. Long Sand Shoal and all the local reefs had bass, mostly on live or chunked bunker. Bunker were plentiful in the mouth of the Connecticut River but harder to find this morning. Maybe the change coming the weather or the shallow water temps may have had some effect. Hopefully tomorrows front passing will put them on the feed again.
Reports from the Race were very good this week, particularly on night tides, similar for Block Island. Reports from Montauk tell of another blast of sandeels putting bass on the feed near shore.
Bluefish - Scattered. Some reports from Long
Sand Shoal, Hatchetts and Southwest Reef but not a lot of numbers. Best bet is still the Race and Plum Gut.
Snapper Blues - Yes it's time. The first reports came in this week from Niantic and the Connecticut River.
Fluke - Good reports from the Waterford area and Seaflower Reef. Some bigger but fewer fluke from the Black Point and Hatchetts depths. Shallower at Soundview and Long Sand Shoal more but smaller fluke.
The Tri-Shop Fluke Contest has started, call us 860-388-2283, Hillyers 860-443-7615 or the Fish Connection 860-885-1739 for details.
1st - Rich Reicherl - 10.70#
2nd - Mark Sharoyer - 10.50#
3rd - Sam Dibner - 9.95#
Porgies - Size is improving at Cranes, Hatchetts and Bartletts. Getting reports of mini sea bass on the reefs.
Blue Crabs
- Still mostly shorts but plenty of them. The DEP piers in the River are good as is Oyster River and the coves in the lower Connecticut River.
Blackfish - No reports came in this week.
