Heading to deer creek this weekend, we will be fishing from the shore targeting the abundant smallies. I am just curious if it is worth my time to try for some trout, seems like all the Deer Creek trout reports are from guys who fish from a boat. Any tips or advice would be great, thanks.

I got one from shore last week. The trout was deep. I used a slip bobber and set the stop knot 40 ft up the line. Good old nightcrawler on the hook. A worm and mallow, or powerbait off the bottom might be a good choice, but I always lose my rigs in the hungry DC rocks if I fish off the bottom.
You'll want to find some steep banks that allow you to access deep water. I won't tell you where to go, as I keep my DC spots guarded [:p]. But if you buy the map they sell at sportsman's, it goes a long ways to figuring DC out. Best of luck.

I have taken my young nieces and nephews up there the last few weeks caught quite a few. We fished the bottom using salmon peach power bait. A good, long cast is important. Use bigger sinkers or a slip bobber full of water to get it out there. We were fishing from 6-9 pm. I'd imagine that mornings would be better. We fished sailboat beach which is in the first state park you come to if your going up from Provo. I got all of them their first, second and a couple of them, third trout. They were all cookie cutter, 15 inch, planter, bows. A couple were a little larger than that but not much.
I was their this morning and they definitely didn't want any of my Spinners. I tried jakes and Kastmasters.
Good luck.

Salmon peach for bass? I've caught a few smallmouth on garlic rainbow powerbait but I've never caught one on salmon peach. Interesting. In fact, I'm going to buy a jar cause I ran out. The trout love that stuff.

I guess that was confusing, all of my post was geared towards fishing for trout. I'd be surprised to catch a bass on any powerbait.
