This year
1. Wacky rig 2. Weightless worms Waves Christmas tree color is kicking butt along with black / blue flake. Got my buddy to buy them now as well. Nothing much else is working this year for us. Can't seem to get a topwater bite going at all. [frown][crazy] [signature]

Baits change depending on where I'm fishing. Texas was Wave Tiki-Gorillas, Zoom Brush Hogs and 12" worms on a dropshot.
Here in Utah it's been topwaters (lost my favorite one a week ago today [frown]) small dropshot worms and 3.5" tubes. [signature]

Seems all the AZ guys like to do is toss huge swimbaits and drop shot senkos. Some guys throw the A-Rig but not nearly as common as drop shotting. Then again all the bass warriors around here somehow disappear once the bigguns get off their beds.
My favorite bass lure of all time is a crusty Hula popper that my Grandpa gave me a really long time ago. I've had to repaint it several times but it still catches fish. [signature]

I would say top water.
If you have spots to fish them go with a good popper or frog. I use Berkley poppers and just recently started using Lunker Frogs. [signature]

This sounds crazy, seeing how I have thousands of dollars of tackle in my fast tackle box, but this year I have been cashing checks with a 4 dollar Flickr shad. Go figure.

Our Fatties are our #1 selling bait, and it's being wacky rigged. We've also had a lot of positive reviews for the 10" worm and drop shot.

Lipless cranks would have to be my all around best bait. They catch fish all year, and are a great search tool. Other favorites have been square bills and other fat bodied shallow runners. When the fish were deep, deep diving cranks got me the best results. In the spring, spinnerbaits, slender swimbaits fished on a weedless weighted hook, and soft jerkbaits were my favorites. As things cool down, if I can find some clear water, suspending jerkbaits are a favorite.

The Rippin' RAP by Rapala. Best lipless lure I have found. Great sizes, great action and super colors and detail. The black/chrome pattern is great. Great vibration bait this bait gives good feel through the line so you know it's working. It also works well at lower speeds and if you just barely reel it the bait glides which is deadly after it has been vibrating. This is a great bait. It has many good colors and it holds up well. I have caught many fish on it. The hooks are a little small, but i haven't lost a fish with it yet. All in all definitely worth a try. [fishon]

For sheer numbers of smallies nothing has come close to a Texas rigged smallie beaver. 3/16 oz with a 3/0 wide gap hook. Problem is its hard to weed through all the 10" fish. On the other end if you use the standard size catch rate is cut down to a 3rd and size doesn't really go up.
Favorite crank is bandit 300's black chartreuse and natural shad. The number one overall winner for quality fish for me still is a weightless senko though. [signature]

One me and my cousin always seem to have luck with is just a plain carolina rig with tubes... We both consistently pull river smallies and walleye and he has good success with it tiger musky fishing. We've tried the expensive Zoom and Berkley baits but one of our favorites go as far as cost and performance is the cheap little freshwater basics tubes..
I started getting some Locket Lures soft plastics, I got their sampler when they had it last and my favorite there is a Wacky rigged Fatty. [signature] |
