Help a brother out:berry
#1
I hate to be the guy to ask for help on the Berry...

But, I live out of state now and haven't fished it in ages. I'm coming back home to Utah for the weekend and my dad is eager to take his boat out. I'm just looking to put my old man on some fish. I prefer the trout, but we may try for kokes (we have downriggers).

Any locations/tips/tricks to help make it a good day for us would be very appreciated.

PMs always accepted

Thank you[fishon]

Strawberry has been tons of fun this year! If you've got downriggers, and you do, you should be able to at least put some fish on the line. The cutthroats, and I hate to say this, have almost been a nuisance while fishing this summer. There's been times we can't even get our lines clipped into the downrigger release before they hit. Dodgers with squids have been the tackle of choice...tipping with maggots doesn't hurt (hint hint). If you are looking for rainbows, we have found most rainbows in renegade and in the narrows. The Kokanee have been good this year and the size seems to be a bit up from last year...for us anyways. Here are just a couple pics for proof (people seem to get upset if you can't prove things these days).

Ps, I hope you get into some fish with your dad. I love fishing with my dad!

Man nice fish. That koke is already starting to turn, do you know if that's unusual or if now's about the time they start?

Just curious as I have not gone after them yet this year and I was hoping to get to the gorge towards the end of August

It seems like we always see a few this time of year. From what I've noticed, it's just barely beginning. Nature runs on its own time. Some fish are early, some are late. At the end of the month at the gorge, you will see some red!

Disclaimer: I'm not an expert and don't claim to be...just basing my comments on what I've seen.

I'm mostly a fly guy but my best luck up there has always been just drifting with anchovies for cutts or good old powerbait off the bottom. Just bank on a shore and cast out the powerbait and if you get nothing just keep moving. Garlic and corn have always produced. I attached a pic of the rig I like...
