Vancouver Island Salmon & Halibut Report
#1
Wow, summer's really do go by fast, too fast. Our Labour Day Weekend is now in the books but salmon fishing continues to be very good. We are still getting large summer Chinook salmon and now we are also seeing big numbers of Coho (silvers) out on the tide lines. The Chinook will be available up until about the 20th of September and Coho will build in numbers and run well into late October. I always pull the boat out of the water and work off the trailer for the winter on the 20th of October. Silvers in our area do top 20 pounds and this falls fishery will be one for the books. There are huge Coho schools feeding offshore along the entire coast of Vancouver Island. We are looking at a solid 6 weeks of fantastic Coho fishing, don't miss out!!! Halibut fishing is also red hot and it looks like the season will remain open until years end this year. Here are a couple of pics from recent trips.
