Any one have or have used the Northland flipper dipper? Looks a little weak...how does it work? Better than a traditional ladle? Gift for my old man.

Thanks, Matt

I inherited one last season, its works ok better than your standard ladle. The spoon section is split in half and each section is on hinges. So when you push it down in the water the halves fold up allowing it to more easily pass the snow & ice. Then when you pull it upwards the halves fold down to make a full spoon trapping the snow and ice.

In the past for me with regular ladles either the handle is to short or the spoon section eventually separates from the handle and they don't float.

This is a little more well built than your regular ladle and it floats.
I say ots better than you standard ladle cause it floats and the longer handle I don't know how many ladles I've lost through ice then your stuck with scooping the ice out with a coffee cup [unimpressed]

I have one , they work ok . Sometimes the clam shells will freeze closed and you have to hold it under water until it thaws out . The handle is long and has a 24 inch ruler marked on it .

Buy the 8 to 10 .It will work good for your auger . I have a 10 inch auger and have to make several dips to clear the hole . With an 8 inch auger a couple of dips and you woud be done .
