Mississippi DWFP Fisheries Director Retiring After 39 Years

JACKSON - The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks (MDWFP) announced that Fisheries Bureau Director Ron Garavelli is retiring June 30, after more than 39 years of experience in natural resource conservation. Garavelli started his career with MDWFP in 1977 as a fisheries biologist and became Fisheries Bureau Director in 1985. He is credited with the beginning of the Agency's Youth fishing rodeo program and was very involved with design and development of the North Mississippi Fish Hatchery and Visitor Education Center at Enid Lake.

Larry Pugh will replace Garavelli as Fisheries Bureau Director. Pugh brings 15 years of administrative and fisheries management experience to the position after serving as Fisheries Bureau Assistant Director and Northeast Mississippi District Fisheries Biologist.
