ATVing the Ice at Strawberry?
#1
Can anyone speak to the safety and advisability of taking an ATV out on the ice at Strawberry right now?

I would like try and get out away from the main access points . . . but not at the risk of life or expensive machinery.

Any updates on ice conditions and/or potential concerns for a 4-wheel drive ATV would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

I fished the berry sunday, there were snowmobiles, atvs, side by sides on the ice, personally a 4 wheeler would be ideal because there is maybe 3-6" of snow and lots of ice patches with no snow. Ice was 8-10" everywhere i was. There were a few small pressure ridges and a few 2-3" slushy spots but nothing that would get a 4wd wheeler stuck. I did also see a couple trucks make it back to hawes point

Be careful! I went in with an ATV on President's day in February one year - It was 20 below. There are warm springs at various locations around the lake. The ice was about an inch thick at this location and about 20-inches everywhere else.

If you go, my advice is stay in the deep water & on the well beaten path!
