First ice trip in ???
#1
It has been several years (possibly 3 or more) since I have been ice fishing. So today I decided to go. I was able to convince mamatrout and my daughter to join me. We decided somewhere close would be best for their first time so we hit Bountiful Pond. We got there between 11 and 12and stayed til 1:30 when my daughter started to get cold. We iced three in that time with several missed hits. Using jigs and mealies just off the bottom. The ice is a foot thick for those who want to know. All fish were small planters but hey it was fun. Here some pics for ya...

Good job Kevin, getting the kid out has got to be tough but also Mamatrout, you must be living right. How deep was the water?

We were out by the first island. I didn't use a FF so this is a guess, I would say 6-8 feet or so where I was at.

Thank too his friends that saw him pulled him out. I also hate the cold winters. When I was walking on the ice I keeped saying I'm walking on Ice that has lost of deep water under it. But I like to try new things sometimes and I try to be advensurous. So as my saying gose [fishin]

Good for you to push a fear from the past aside and try somthing new (and scary). It is always difficult to get past a frightening experience from years gone bye. Glad you got out with hubby and the daughter, those times will become great memories. Hope the day was fun and memorable!!!

Just a tip In the XX+ years Ive been ice fishing Ive fallen through twice nothing major but since then I always carry a 100 foot rope with a small weight tied to one end and in pocket ice spikes

You never know who might fall through the rope with the weigh tied to one end works great if you need to throw/ slide the rope to a fallen person. The small weight also gives a person something to grab onto.

Ice spikes especially if im solo

Maybe if you would of seen my last year and the otheryear reports of how many small guys I've caught. Just maybe.... Just maybe you would understand my little sarcasm joke.

Most people joke around with me for how many small guys I always catch... .. .

What you think and type as sarcasm doesn't always come across that way.
