Little Dell 1-9-2014
#1
I went to Little Dell yesterday. I got on the ice at 12:30 p.m. and the fishing was a little slow. I rigged up a white marabou jig with a tiny rat finkee about 4 inches below it. About thirty to 40 minutes into it the fish started showing up. After seeing a few fish on the camera I started hooking up. It was really interesting to see the way the fish reacted to something that they obviously don't see much. I was a little skeptical because this is one of the only lakes in Utah that you cannot use baits or scents but it turns out that the fish are really aggressive. I was fishing about 43 feet of water and jigging lightly. The clarity of the lake was awesome, this allowed me to use my underwater fish cam and see all of the bites! I truly feel like if you are going to take a kid fishing this would be the lake to give a shot. The ice was a solid 5 -6 inches think on the south-west end of the lake. I was about 20 feet off the shore. Keep in mind this lake is catch and release only...... but man I tell you what, it was a riot. I made sure all my hooks were barbless aiding a quick release. All the fish I caught were between 15 and 18 inches long and fighters.

It's only catch and release for the cutthroat trout but if you catch a brookie or rainbow if your lucky you can keep the state limit of 4 total by those 2 species.

Yes you can get a two wheel drive to the parking lot. The hike down is a little long but it's worth it. I went again today and caught fish consistently. Fish in about 44 feet of water and drill a few holes too check the ice condition. The ice was 5 1/2 " thick today.
