I'm really wanting a camera for ice fishing. I also would love to be able to look at lake trout. I wonder if there is enough light to even see at 75 to 100 feet. I cant find any you tube of macs, thinking it must not work very good. Does anybody have any experience or wisdom on deep water viewing?[crazy]

Unless you have great lights on the camera highly doubtful you'll be able to see at that depth maybe with IR you'll be able to but only a few feet if that.

The Aqua-Vu Mini I had came with only a 50' cord. But the camera had IR lights that came on automatically whenever there wasn't enough ambient light. They worked great.

Cameras with IR, plus additional IR light housings, STILL don't work too well that deep. It "sees" a few feet at best. I once had a high-dollar camera with lights, (Not Aqua View, but industrial-grade) and added external lights, to try it. 50 and down got pretty black. Camera spooked the lakers.

Not only is visibility poor, but the chance of a laker getting wrapped around the camera line and making a mess of things on the way up is really high.

Thanks for the info guys and for saving me time and money.
I guess the mystery of the lake trout is part of the reason I like trying to catch them so much. They make me crazy!!!

Cameras can be very useful. I used one to tell what kind of fish I was seeing on my fishfinder, for example. Sitting over a layer of suspended fish, I lowered the camera and saw clearly that the school below me wasn't bass or crappie, but smallish carp. No need to expend effort or time there, so I moved on.

I can think of lots of great uses for a camera especially for ice fishing. I like the idea of the Fishphone under 200 bucks but only comes with 50 ft. Sounds like that might be plenty. I really like watching the underwater cameras on you tube. How deep can you see in Pineveiw?

I just got the aquaview fishtv 7 from basspro and I love it. It wasn't expensive and has built in uv light on the camera that work great! And it comes with 100 ft cord so you could get down there, I haven't used it deeper than 30 ft but I love it.
