pike gear I use
#1
i have been getting a bunch of PM'S and qustions on what gear i use to catch pike at yuba.. so here are the tool's i use.. this last trip i took 5 poles with me 2 zebco mrico light's i never hit the ice with out them. 1 home made 4 foot 2x4 with eye's on it loaded with 20 lbs pline. 1 6 foot heavy uglystick again loaded with 20 lbs pline. and one other pole i take just incase i need a pole with 4 lbs on it.. the 2 zebcos had 6 lbs and 8 lbs trilene xt green on them. all but one of the pike i have caught out there have been on the zebco's even the big 13 lbs 35" pike.. all the pike i have caught have been on pearl tube jigs tiped with red side shiner or perch meat..
i have not been using cable leaders or anything other then that.. yes i have been getting bite off's but not many.

Oh, I guess I misunderstood. I guess you just have to be lucky, for the pike do not cut the line.

well not really lucky if your using a jig or lure and paying attention to your pole don't let them suck the jig in to deep you will catch them a lot of the time in a area where the line is not in the teeth of the fish.. bait is different use cable with just bait..

I actually did this with tiger musky at newton. 8lb trilene XL and a jig. Got it perfectly in the upper lip. Then it rolled and snapped the line.
