Yup lots of open areas, but they aren't very large. Cisco beach had open water in spots and 3+" ice in others. We caught our Cisco on the ice. It was much easier than wading. Looked like some brave fellars out on at the pump house after whitefish I guess. I didn't need the adrenaline rush so I'm waiting. Later J

Yep three inches of ice at the pump house and we were after cutts and Lakers.

And it looks like you found some. Good job. Looked like you had a lot of company for early ice too. Was that scary walking out that far with the ice cracking each step? I know 3" should be fine but it cracked and sagged on me a couple times today and that sure makes me nervous. Later J

It was a little nerve racking walking out in the dark checking the ice to see if it was thick enough. When the sun came up it started cracking really good and was a bit scary. If someone heads out there they should be careful. Oh and the fishing was slow and the fish were full of cisco. Maybe in two weeks the fishing will pick up if there is still ice.

Yup it was fun, but took us about an hour to get all of ours for the kids. I still like catching them, don't know why. Later J

p.s. the "same crack you fished for five hours" wasnt the single 20' chunck of ice i had to crawl off of with my son. there was a 3" gap all the way around us after it buckled. and it was moving with every step. thats why i yelled at my son to get off it right now. next time your group feels like talking shit make sure im not 30 yards from you where i can hear it.

Calm down we weren't talking anything it looked unsafe there that's why I told people to be careful. We were the first ones on the ice and we knew it wasn't safe that far out. You made a bad choose to go out there and you will know better in the future. If you fell in who do you think would have came and tried to get you out? Don't take your bad judgement out on me.

yep same depth , 25' further north and your party had puckered assholes too when you left so quit with the bad judgement case. that pressure ridge could have been anywhere abd happened to anybody. why do you think we both had life jackets? and yes after everyone else left there were several more fractures. the ice was unsafe period. the fact you were talking shit is what pissed me off. " hope he told his son to take care of his wife". typical fly fishing mentality( yeah i heard all your lost fish stories too) so excuse me for singling you you guys out. i should have known beter than to think you were stand up guys.
01-26-2014, 05:11 PM
We can all tell who the stand up guy here is. You took your son to a bad ice spot and are pissed at us for talking about you scrambling to get off a scary ice. Only one guy is calling names. And we didn't want to cross that pressure crack that you crossed that is on you. I guess a group of guys can't have fun ice fishing and joking around when the weather is nice and the fishing is slow. Call me out on the internet but not in person thirty yards away, who is the stand up man now.

I'm down we just need some safe ice for it to happen. I can see why lunkerhunter is upset he got scared and is just taking it out on who ever he can. We did have some pucker moments but I never though the ice wasn't safe where we were. But you just have to be cautious at all times. We were worried because we were out there and others would walk out without checking out the ice and put themselves in bad situations. Lunkerhunter did not leave after the ice was not safe for anyone. Him and his son fished for a few more hours. So the ice was ok just not as far as he decided to go.

I don't see the argument, just silly bickering. They both agree, the ice was unsafe, but they both dared it anyway. [inline tmp_dogs-who-are-shamelessly-proud-of-what-they-just-did-31-1059120017.jpeg] enough |
